Bengals WLB Rashad Jeanty will not need surgery on his fractured left tibia.
That's good news for Jeanty and the Bengals, who can now expect to have their valuable backup healthy for 2010.

Updating a previous item, Bengals WLB Rashad Jeanty suffered a fractured left tibia in Saturday's game against the Jets.
Expected to fill in for Rey Maualuga, Jeanty suffered the injury on the opening kickoff. Brandon Johnson, a valuable reserve, will step into the lineup for the remainder of the postseason. While the injury won't dramatically affect the starting defense, linebacker depth becomes an issue for the Bengals.

Bengals WLB Rashad Jeanty left Sunday's game with a sprained left knee and ankle on the opening drive.
His return is considered doubtful. Jeanty was expected to replace Rey Maualuga as the starter on the strong side, so versatile reserve Brandon Johnson will likely move into the lineup.

Rashard Jeanty will draw the start at strong side linebacker for the Bengals Sunday, with Rey Maualuga (ankle) out for the season.
Jeanty isn't the thumper that Maualuga has been, but he was the team's second-leader tackler at the same SAM position last season. The Bengals' run defense may not be quite as strong, but they're lucky to have quality depth.

Bengals SAM LB Rey Maualuga is expected to be done for the season with the fractured left ankle suffered in Sunday's game.
One of the underrated keys to the Bengals' 2009 success has been their defensive depth, and last year's starter Rashad Jeanty will step into the starting lineup. While Maualuga has played well, it's not a devastating injury for the Bengals' run defense.

Rey Maualuga has been diagnosed with a fractured left ankle.
Maualuga suffered the injury in the first quarter Sunday and is done for the year. His backup at strong-side linebacker is Rashad Jeanty.
