Five GMs and/or scouts tell Yahoo Sports that they believe Vernon Davis deserves "real consideration" to make the Pro Bowl this year.
"Davis has been special this season," said one. "Always a good blocker, but now he’s a real threat in the passing game. He finally seems to know what he’s doing." Davis is also the No. 2 overall tight end in fantasy football.

49ers coach Mike Singletary defended Vernon Davis after the tight end drew heat for his pregame encounter with Bears DE Adewale Ogunleye.
"Vernon is growing up," Singletary said. "I don't think he knows how important he is to this team. He's just got so much energy and he's an emotional guy and you need those guys to win a championship." The offensive captain has stayed out of Singletary's doghouse all season.

Vernon Davis was held to 16 yards on three catches against the Bears in Week 10.
Davis was targeted just five times while Alex Smith attempted just 23 passes in a game that skewed toward the run in the final three quarters. His biggest impact on offense was a pair of false start penalties. He won't be the No. 1 fantasy tight end after this weekend, but he's still a must-start against the Packers next week.
 Alex Smith-QB - 49ers Nov. 12 - 2:53 pm et

The 49ers ran more than half of their plays out of the shotgun against the Titans in Week 9.
"I like the things that work," Singletary explained. "It is certainly something we have the tools to do." Alex Smith operated almost exclusively out of the shotgun in college, and he's clearly more comfortable in that formation. Singletary deserves credit for being malleable enough to make the change to a pass-first offense, which will increase the value of all their relevant fantasy players.

Vernon Davis (shoulder) is listed as probable for Thursday night's game after practicing fully again on Wednesday.
The No. 1 fantasy tight end in the league and will start against Chicago. He's always a good bet for a touchdown, and to lead the 49ers in receiving.

 Vernon Davis-TE - 49ers Nov. 10 - 8:00 pm et

Vernon Davis (shoulder) returned to a full practice on Tuesday.
Look for a probable listing before Thursday night's matchup with Chicago. Davis overtook Owen Daniels to be the No. 1 fantasy tight end by catching 10 balls for 102 yards last week. He also has an NFL-high seven receiving TDs.
