Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio expressed confidence in Laurence Maroney following his late-game fumble that led to the Colts' dramatic comeback Sunday night.
"We have a lot of confidence in Laurence and his ability and I’m sure he’s anxious to bounce back this week," said Caserio. It remains to be seen if Bill Belichick feels the same way. With Sammy Morris (knee) due back this week, Maroney will be a risky fantasy option against the Jets.

Laurence Maroney rushed 13 times for 31 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 15 yards in Week 10 against the Colts.
Maroney burst through for a one-yard touchdown run on the Pats' second drive of the game. But Kevin Faulk was trusted with nearly as many carries and gained more yards with the opportunities. Maroney has scored in four straight games, but that streak may end soon with Sammy Morris (knee) on the verge of returning.

Laurence Maroney rushed 20 times for 82 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins in Week 9.
Maroney plunged in from one yard out after Randy Moss was stopped at the stripe on a long pass play. Maroney dominated the workload Sunday, with no other back receiving more than two carries. He's a borderline RB2 against the Colts next week, and Sammy Morris is expected to return the following week.

According to the Boston Herald, Sammy Morris (knee) will likely miss two more weeks before returning to face the Jets in Week 11.
The knee injury that knocked Morris out of the Week 6 game against the Titans was a torn MCL. A Grade II tear typically results in a 3-4 week recovery time, while a Grade III tear is closer to 4-6 weeks. Week 11 would be five weeks since Morris sustained the injury. Depending on Laurence Maroney's level of play over the next couple of games, Morris will likely be worked in slowly as part of the backfield committee.

Patriots RBs Laurence Maroney and BenJarvus Green-Ellis were held out of Thursday's practice.
Maroney practiced Wednesday and the Patriots have a bye this week, so there's no reason for concern. The team is likely just allowing both backs to rest up. Sammy Morris (knee) is still not practicing.

Patriots coach Bill Belichick offered a defense of Laurence Maroney when asked if he gets frustrated by the talented but inconsistent back.
"I really don't have a lot of problems with Laurence," said Belichick. "What I'd like to see is for us to open bigger holes to create some space for these guys." The Patriots have not updated Sammy Morris' status (knee), but we're tentatively expecting Maroney to handle lead-back duties again in Week 9 after the bye.
