Falcons signed QB D.J. Shockley, C Rob Bruggeman, and WRs James Swinton and Andy Strickland to reserve/future contracts.
Shockley will be given another look as a third-stringer this offseason, but he's unlikely to make the roster. He doesn't fit the Falcons' pro-style offense.

Shockley was released in October, but the Falcons need him around for insurance with Matt Ryan (turf toe) out for Week 13.

Falcons released QB D.J. Shockley from their practice squad.
The hometown hero and former UG 'Dog wore out his welcome in the regime headed by second-year GM Thomas Dimitroff. Shockley, 26, never appeared in a game after ex-GM Rich McKay took him in the 2006 seventh round.

Falcons signed QB D.J. Shockley, WR Troy Bergeron, OT Mike Butterworth, LB Robert James, DE Maurice Lucas, DB Glenn Sharpe, OG Jose Valdez, and DT Vance Walker to their practice squad.
Shockley lost out to undrafted free agent J.P. Wilson for Atlanta's No. 3 quarterback job, but could get called up if one of the Falcons' QBs goes down in-season. Walker was a late-round pick this year; James was in 2008.

Shockley was outplayed by rookie John Parker Wilson this preseason. He is still eligible to be on the Falcons' practice squad, but he will likely try to land a gig on another 53-man roster.

He looked better than any backup QB has this preseason. D.J. Shockley and undrafted rookie John Parker Wilson are battling for the No. 3 job.
