Isaac Bruce said Tuesday that he expects to put out a statement "in the next few days" regarding his potential retirement from football.
Bruce was inactive for much of the second half of the season, finishing with just two receptions after Week 8. The 37-year-old is fully expected to retire this offseason. Second all time in receiving yards, he will be an interesting case for the Hall of Fame in five years.

 Isaac Bruce-WR - 49ers Jan. 3 - 4:48 pm et

Isaac Bruce played just one snap in his return to St. Louis in Week 17.
Bruce was a team captain and played the first offensive play (a run) and then went to the locker room and was in street clothes from there on. He got a warm reception in the fourth quarter from the few people that were left in attendance. Bruce, 37, will likely hang up the cleats this off-season.

Isaac Bruce (ankle) missed practice again Thursday.
The idea of Bruce getting major playing time in his return to St. Louis is nice, but it's not going to happen. Bruce may be a team captain for the opening coin toss, but that may be the longest he's on the field Sunday.

49ers offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye insists that Isaac Bruce (ankle) is not prepared to play in a reunion game at St. Louis Sunday.
Raye says he doesn't want to "disrespect" Bruce with a token appearance. Bruce and the other Niners receivers may end up successfully lobbying for that token appearance, but we wouldn't count on significant action this week.

49ers coach Mike Singletary reconsidered the idea of playing Isaac Bruce in Sunday's season finale after the other 49ers receivers lobbied for Bruce to suit up.
The 49ers are playing Bruce's former team, the Rams, on Sunday. Josh Morgan, who replaced Bruce in the starting lineup earlier this season, went to Singletary and said he wanted the veteran to start over him this week. Look for Bruce to be announced as a starter, get a huge ovation from the St. Louis fans, and play a few snaps in the NFL for the final time.

Isaac Bruce stated in a conference call with St. Louis media Wednesday that there's a "75 percent" change he'll retire after this year.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, "those who know Bruce say it's closer to 100 percent." The 49ers do plan to let Bruce play in their season finale Sunday against the Rams, with whom Bruce spent nearly his entire career. It will be interesting to see if Bruce makes the Hall of Fame. While he does rank second all-time in receiving yards and fifth all-time in receptions, Bruce made only four Pro Bowls and was never named All Pro.
