49ers waived WR Michael Spurlock.
Spurlock started the season rotating with Arnaz Battle as the slot receiver, but Michael Crabtree's emergence pushed him down the depth chart. He could get a look elsewhere as a kick returner.

Coach Mike Singletary announced Friday that Micheal Spurlock and Arnaz Battle will rotate in as the 49ers' slot receiver.
Incumbent Jason Hill is still nowhere to be found. Battle will likely get the most snaps in three-receiver sets, but his upside is limited because of the "committee." Josh Morgan remains the 49ers' best bet for catches.

49ers OC Jimmy Raye began tinkering with his version of the Wildcat offense on Wednesday, calling it the "Taser."
Receivers Michael Spurlock and Arnaz Battle took shotgun snaps in the formation and so will Michael Robinson when he returns from a groin injury. All are former college quarterbacks. The Niners don't expect to use it in their preseason opener on Friday against Denver.

Third-year receiver Jason Hill has reportedly been outplayed by Micheal Spurlock in 49ers training camp.
Spurlock is a decent kick returner, but he's bounced around the league since going undrafted in 2006. Hill was a third-round pick who lit up the Combine in 2007. Hill finished last season very strong, but he's not taking the next step.
