Troy Smith's agent insists he made a trade request in December despite GM Ozzie Newsome's contention that he never received it.
This is all getting a little silly. Regardless of the request, the Ravens haven't received much interest in Smith, nor are they likely to this offseason. He's far more likely to stay the backup in Baltimore as opposed to landing a starting job.

 Troy Smith-QB - Ravens Feb. 3 - 5:29 pm et

Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome said Wednesday that he has never received a trade request from Troy Smith's agent.
Newsome said he hasn't even spoken with Smith's agent. The Ravens GM also suggested that Smith isn't drawing much interest in trade talks. Expect him to remain Joe Flacco's backup in 2010.

Ravens backup QB Troy Smith says he would "love" to play for the Browns.
"There is no doubt about it," said Smith, an Ohio State alum. "It has always been a childhood dream of mine." Smith is accurate and mobile, and could be a good fit in Mike Holmgren's West Coast offense (assuming Holmgren installs his scheme). The Ravens are likely open to any trade offers.

Safety Donte Whitner is lobbying for the Bills to trade for Ravens backup QB Troy Smith.
The two were teammates not only at Ohio State but also at Glenville High School, so Whitner is far from unbiased. While it's reasonable to believe Smith would be an upgrade on Ryan Fitzpatrick & Co., the Bills will likely aim for a franchise quarterback as opposed to a temporary solution such as Smith.

 John Beck-QB - Ravens Jan. 20 - 9:50 am et

Ravens coach John Harbaugh suggested that Troy Smith and John Beck will battle for the backup quarterback job in 2010.
Harbaugh added that he guesses "there’s going to be some people that are going to be interested in those two guys, so we’re not going to hold them back." The Ravens are overly optimistic about their backups' value on the trade market. Beck, in particular, is definitely not an attractive commodity.

 Troy Smith-QB - Ravens Jan. 19 - 1:22 pm et

Troy Smith insists that he had nothing to do with last month's trade request, though he's looking forward to exploring trade options this offseason.
"That was my agent. That wasn't me," said Smith. "But if he's going to put our situation in a predicament like that, I've got to ride with him." Smith is setting himself up for disappointment by shopping his services. He's not an obvious enough upgrade for any team to offer as much as he's worth to the Ravens.
