According to beat writer Steve Reed, Matt Moore is not a "slam dunk" as the Panthers' starting quarterback in 2010.
John Fox has been loyal to a fault with his veterans, but we have a hard time believing a washed-up Jake Delhomme has a legit chance to win an open competition. Though Panthers are expected to "add a younger quarterback to the mix as well," Moore has to be considered the favorite to open Week 1 as the starter.

 Matt Moore-QB - Panthers Jan. 6 - 10:11 am et

Matt Moore had a 98.5 passer rating this season, which would have placed him eighth in the league if he had enough pass attempts.
An impending exclusive rights free agent, Moore will return in 2010. It's also quite possible that he'll enter next season as the team's starting quarterback even though Jake Delhomme will also be on the roster. In his five starts this season, Moore led the team to four wins, completed 62.7 percent of his passes and tossed eight touchdowns against one interception.

 Matt Moore-QB - Panthers Jan. 3 - 5:36 pm et

Matt Moore completed 14-of-23 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers' Week 17 win over New Orleans.
This was Moore's shakiest effort in a month, but that was to be expected without Steve Smith (fractured forearm). Muhsin Muhammad was the Panthers' primary receiver, and Dwayne Jarrett was No. 2. Moore still closed out the year with an 8:0 TD-to-INT ratio in his last four games. He turned the football over just once in five starts, led the team to a 4-1 record, and is in good position to hold off Jake Delhomme in 2010. The Panthers, however, are likely to add talent to the position.

Matt Moore (questionable, shoulder) practiced fully on Friday.
The Panthers are liberal when it comes to passing out "questionable" tags. Moore practiced fully Thursday as well and will start Sunday vs. the Saints.

Matt Moore (ribs) returned to a full practice Thursday.
Moore is good to go against a Saints team that will probably rest some starters Sunday. Moore has seven touchdown passes and no interceptions in his last three games as he auditions for a possible starting gig next season.

Matt Moore (ribs) was limited in Panthers practice Wednesday.
The injury is probably minor. Moore should start against Carolina.
