Kevin Smith rushed 12 times for 55 yards and caught three passes for 10 yards in Sunday's loss to the Vikings.
Smith had some nice, big holes in the first half but couldn't break any big runs. We're not sure if his various nagging injuries were bothering him, but he didn't look explosive at all. Once the game got out of hand, Smith was replaced by Maurice Morris. He has a great matchup against the Browns next week, but make sure he's feeling healthy before using him.

Lions coach Jim Schwartz wants to see more "explosive plays" from his running backs.
Kevin Smith, averaging just 3.3 YPC, is beginning to come under fire in Detroit. "To get those type of runs you have to break tackles," said Smith. "I guess I'm not breaking any tackles to get those explosives." While Smith is in no danger of a decreased workload this year, the Lions may look to upgrade in the future.

Kevin Smith ran for 67 yards on 13 carries and caught two passes for nine yards in Week 9 against Seattle.
Smith easily led the Lions' backfield in touches (15 to Maurice Morris' six) and busted a season-long 37-yard run, but Detroit was totally stagnant on offense after the first quarter. Smith hasn't scored a touchdown since Week 4. He's no more than a flex play consideration in Week 10 against Minnesota.

Kevin Smith is active Sunday against the Seahawks.
Maurice Morris might play a slightly expanded role in the game, but Smith is a much better fantasy bet against a middling Seahawks run defense.

Kevin Smith (questionable, shoulder) practiced in a "limited" manner again on Friday and remains on track to play in Week 9 at Seattle.
The coaching staff has indicated no concern about Smith's status. He should resume seeing 16-20 touches this week. We have him as the RB16 overall.

Though Kevin Smith will remain the feature back, Lions coordinator Scott Linehan wants to see Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown carrying the ball more in the second half.
"We want to see those two guys carrying the ball in that kind of fashion," Linehan said of the Week 8 split between Morris and Smith. "I thought that was fairly good balance between those two and Aaron." Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed earlier in the week that Smith is still the "workhorse" back, so we're not expect a sea change in the backfield.
