 Matt Forte-RB- BearsFeb. 9 - 1:29 pm et
According to beat writer Jeff Dickerson, the Bears want to add a running back with "a little juice" to pair with Matt Forte this year.
Forte can be somewhat forgiven for his disastrous 2009 season due to the hamstring and knee injuries in addition to an abysmal offensive line. He is lacking in big-play ability, however, so the Bears will explore upgrades on Kevin Jones and Kahlil Bell as a complement to their starter.

 Matt Forte-RB - Bears Feb. 2 - 9:10 am et

Bears coach Lovie Smith insists that the team won't suddenly give up on the run despite hiring pass-heavy offensive coordinator Mike Martz.
"When I say get off the bus running the football, I mean that is a mind-set," Smith said. "The run will always be a part of what we're going to do. (We play in) Chicago, we play in the elements." Martz is terrific at getting running backs involved in the passing game. While Matt Forte may lose some carries, he will be a candidate for 60-70 catches going forward.

 Jay Cutler-QB - Bears Feb. 1 - 3:40 pm et

Jay Cutler projects to benefit from the Bears' hire of Mike Martz as offensive coordinator.
Martz is a pass-happy coach whose system requires its quarterback to consistently make throws outside the numbers at the intermediate and deep levels. Cutler has the arm strength to be highly effective in the scheme. His yardage total and yards-per-attempt average are virtually certain to rise. Martz also has a knack for keeping running backs heavily involved in the passing game, suiting one of Matt Forte's primary strengths.

Matt Forte reportedly underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee during the past two weeks.
A post-season MRI revealed the need for the procedure. Forte showed toughness in playing through a partially torn hamstring and an early-season MCL sprain, though it's not known if the scope is related to the latter. Forte should be healthy in time for OTAs, and he'll be a fine bounce-back candidate for the 2010 season.

 Matt Forte-RB - Bears Jan. 4 - 9:38 am et

Matt Forte revealed that he suffered an MCL sprain during the season.
Forte never missed a game even though he tweaked the knee in Week 3. This problem was just a piece of the puzzle, with preseason hamstring troubles and an underperforming line also contributing to Forte's bust of a season. If he can stay clear of nagging injuries, Forte will be a bounce-back candidate in 2010. He was one of nine backs that touched the ball 300+ times this season.

 Matt Forte-RB - Bears Jan. 3 - 4:48 pm et

Matt Forte rushed 16 times for 104 yards and caught three passes for 23 yards in Week 17 against the Lions.
Definitely too little too late for one of the season's most disappointing players. Forte's numbers in the passing game end up similar to his rookie production, but his per-carry average went from 3.9 to 3.6 as he lost 306 rushing yards and he managed just four touchdowns after scoring a dozen times in 2008.
