Patriots ILB Jerod Mayo experienced a sophomore slump after winning Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2008.
After missing all of OTAs with an undisclosed injury, Mayo sprained his MCL in Week 1 and was never the same. His tackle total fell from 128 to 103, and Mayo appeared to be a liability in pass coverage. A full offseason of rest will do some good. Mayo should offer value in 2010 IDP fantasy drafts.

Expect him to resume every-down duties Sunday versus Tennessee.

Patriots ILB Jerod Mayo (knee) recorded six tackles and a forced fumble after entering on the eighth play of the game Sunday.
Coach Bill Belichick said he didn't think Mayo was ready to go a full game, but the linebacker said he was "felt good" afterward. He should resume his starting role in Week 6.

Gary Guyton has been starting while Mayo was out. It's unclear who will start today's game against the Broncos, but this is clearly Mayo's job when healthy.

With Mayo coming back and Junior Seau about to sign, Gary Guyton's run as a starting inside linebacker may be coming to an end. He'll at least lose snaps. Mayo will be a game-time decision, but we're betting he'll face Denver.

It's always tough to get a read on Patriots players, but Mayo's increased participation bodes well for his chances of playing on Sunday. He'll likely be listed as questionable on Friday. Though things are looking up, he could be a game-time decision.
