Lions coordinator Scott Linehan confirmed that Maurice Morris will be used in a feature back role similar to the way Kevin Smith was used.
"I'd like to see Maurice be able to get those carries," said Linehan. "He basically gets everything that Kevin was getting." Fullback Jerome Felton could be used in short-yardage, however, and Aaron Brown is expected to be used as a change-of-pace back. Morris is no better than a desperation flex play this week against the Cardinals.

Maurice Morris didn't play a single snap in the Lions' season opener.
Rookie Aaron Brown and fullback Jerome Felton got carries ahead of him. Morris can be dropped if you were viewing him as a "handcuff" for Kevin Smith. Smith is clearly an every-down back and will rarely come off the field.

Lions fullback Jerome Felton is expected to get some second-quarter carries after Kevin Smith leaves the preseason opener.
We still expect Maurice Morris to be Smith's primary backup. Felton did score 63 touchdowns as a running back in college, but he went to Furman. Not sure if that counts as impressive.

According to beat writer Tom Kowalski, veteran FB Terrelle Smith will likely make the Lions' roster.
Smith is competing with second-year man Jerome Felton for the starting fullback job, but Kowalski thinks the Lions will keep both players. Neither figures to get more than 10 carries all season as they block for Kevin Smith.
