49ers backup DE Demetric Evans is out three weeks with a sprained shoulder.
Evans has just four tackles this season as a reserve lineman, so it's not a major loss. Rookie Ricky Jean-Francois is expected fill in as a rotational defensive lineman.

Rookie DE Ricky Jean-Francois will be fined an undisclosed amount by the team for missing the 49ers' Bay Area flight after the Week 6 bye.
Coach Mike Singletary also vowed Monday to "run him until he can't walk," which is at least better than getting cut. Jean-Francois was a seventh-round pick in April. He has not been active for a game in his rookie year.

49ers rookie DE Ricky Jean-Francois (staph infection) returned to practice Thursday.
RJF was placed on the non-football illness report earlier in the week when he came down with staph. He's unlikely to make the 49ers' roster.

49ers rookie DE Ricky Jean-Francois is suffering from a staph infection.
He's been placed on the non-football illness list. The Niners' situation hasn't reached Cleveland plague proportions yet, but they did have staph infection issues with Josh Morgan and Keith Lewis last preseason. They'll be under the spotlight.

49ers signed seventh-round DE Ricky Jean-Francois to a four-year contract.
After an underwhelming LSU career in which he often flashed but lacked any sort of consistency, Jean-Francois is in a battle for a spot on the Niners. His odds would look much better if Ray McDonald's knee doesn't come around.

49ers selected LSU DL Ricky Jean-Francois with the No. 244 overall pick in the NFL Draft.
Like current 49er Ray McDonald, Jean-Francois is a 'tweener tackle/end at 6'3/295. He also wasn't very productive in 2008, but still declared for the draft early. Jean-Francois will try to make the Niners as a 3-4 defensive end.
