 Maurice Morris-RB- LionsNov. 8 - 7:58 pm et
Maurice Morris ran just four times for 20 yards and caught two balls for 17 more in the Lions' Week 9 loss.
Coach Jim Schwartz lived up to his declaration that Kevin Smith would remain the Lions' workhorse, with Morris in a "complementary role." Morris isn't even talented enough to be an overly attractive handcuff for Smith.

 Kevin Smith-RB - Lions Nov. 6 - 9:57 am et

Though Kevin Smith will remain the feature back, Lions coordinator Scott Linehan wants to see Maurice Morris and Aaron Brown carrying the ball more in the second half.
"We want to see those two guys carrying the ball in that kind of fashion," Linehan said of the Week 8 split between Morris and Smith. "I thought that was fairly good balance between those two and Aaron." Coach Jim Schwartz confirmed earlier in the week that Smith is still the "workhorse" back, so we're not expect a sea change in the backfield.

 Kevin Smith-RB - Lions Nov. 4 - 12:27 am et

According to beat writer Tom Kowalski, Kevin Smith "appears in no danger" of losing his role as the Lions' workhorse running back.
Kowalski is one of the most clued-in beat writers in the business. Smith's role became a concern when he bowed out of Week 8 with a minor shoulder injury and Maurice Morris gained 63 yards on 14 carries. Smith must improve on his 3.1 YPC average to hold off Morris, but he remains the every-down back for now. In Week 9, he'll square off with a Seattle defense surrendering a generous 4.2 yards per carry and nearly one rushing score per game.

 Kevin Smith-RB - Lions Nov. 2 - 9:17 am et

Lions coach Jim Schwartz hinted at a bigger workload for Maurice Morris going forward.
Kevin Smith aggravated his shoulder injury and also had a foot problem Sunday, so Morris came in and rushed 14 times for 63 yards. Smith's injuries are not serious, but he has been pretty banged up all year and is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry on the season. Look for Morris to spell Smith a decent amount in the second half of the season.

 Kevin Smith-RB - Lions Nov. 1 - 9:55 pm et

Lions coach Jim Schwartz said in his post-game presser that the injury Kevin Smith suffered in Sunday's loss wasn't serious.
It's unclear if Smith suffered a shoulder or ankle injury. Schwartz said Smith could've gone back if he was needed, but Maurice Morris was playing well. Morris averaged 4.5 YPC, while Smith got just 2.8. This is a concern for Smith going forward. He hasn't improved as a ball carrier in his second year, and may be in danger of losing a chunk of his workload.

 Maurice Morris-RB - Lions Nov. 1 - 4:43 pm et

Maurice Morris tallied 63 yards on 14 rushes and caught a 19-yard pass in Week 8 against the Rams.
Morris was relied on heavily in the second half as starting rusher Kevin Smith had his ankle examined and eventually re-taped. He showed a good deal of shiftiness and nearly broke a few big runs, but that really isn't much of a feat against the St. Louis defensive front. As long as Smith is healthy -- which it appears he is -- Morris won't hold much fantasy value.
