Redskins named Jim Haslett defensive coordinator.
We've known about the hire for three days, but the move didn't become official until Friday. Haslett is expected to incorporate 3-4 alignments into a Skins defense that has been a 4-3 for as long as we can remember. Brian Orakpo and Andre Carter figure to be the outside linebackers. Albert Haynesworth could play five-technique end or nose tackle. We'll know the Redskins are serious about the 3-4 if they invest in players that fit the scheme this spring.

Redskins LB London Fletcher was kept out of the Pro Bowl for the 12th straight season.
The self-proclaimed "Susan Lucci of football" may have bypassed Donnie Edwards as the most under-appreciated linebacker of his generation. Rookie Brian Orakpo who did make the NFC Pro Bowl squad said: "If I could trade it, man, I'd give my spot to him any day."

Redskins SLB Brian Orakpo racked up six tackles (five solo), an incredible four sacks, and a forced fumble in Sunday's win over Oakland.
The effort vaults him into the mix for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors along with Texans SLB Brian Cushing, Bills S Jairus Byrd, and longer shots Clay Matthews, James Laurinaitis, and Terrance Knighton. Orakpo leads the Redskins with 11 sacks and has been a dynamic pass rusher off the edge.

Brian Orakpo lost snaps to H.B. Blades last week because the Redskins didn't want Orakpo defending Jeremy Shockey.
"It was for that game," said coach Jim Zorn. Orakpo was a defensive end in college and is still developing as an outside linebacker. Zorn admitted the No. 13 overall pick is wearing down, but Orakpo has had an excellent rookie season with 40 tackles and seven sacks already.

Redskins OLB/DE Brian Orakpo broke the franchise's rookie sack record by posting 1.5 more in Sunday's win over Denver.
Orakpo, the No. 13 overall pick, also made six tackles, bringing his season total to 32 (22 solo). The former Texas Longhorn has seven sacks on the year. Orakpo is certain to be on the all-rookie first team at season's end.

Redskins rookie Brian Orakpo picked up two more sacks in Week 9, raising his total on the season to 5 1/2.
Orakpo has been one of the Skins' few bright spots, leading all rookies in sacks. A strong-side linebacker on early downs and end in passing situations, Orakpo also has 26 tackles (17 solo) and a pass breakup. Expect his rapid development to continue as he fully grasps how to play linebacker in the NFL.
