With Ken Hamilin (ankle) out, Alan Ball will make his first NFL start at free safety on Sunday.
Hamlin is out 2-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain. Ball, a 2007 seventh-round pick out of Illinois, was moved to safety this season after playing corner his previous two seasons. Rookie safety Mike Hamlin and CB Orlando Scandrick will fill in for Ball on special teams.

Cowboys FS Ken Hamlin is out 2-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain.
Hamlin's loss isn't major for Dallas' fantasy defense because he hasn't made a big play all year. Pat Watkins will take over opposite Gerald Sensabaugh.

Cowboys FS Ken Hamlin left Sunday's game with an ankle injury.
Hamlin appeared to be in pain on the sidelines with no one around him. Patrick Watkins came in to replace Hamlin across from SS Gerald Sensabaugh.

Cowboys FS Ken Hamlin "might not see the third year" of his six-year, $39 million contract if he doesn't revert to 2007 form.
Hamlin played at a Pro Bowl level on his one-year deal in 2007, but he struggled last year after landing the mega deal. The Cowboys need to develop some talent alongside Hamlin if they're going to seriously consider cutting him next offseason.

The Cowboys expect free safety Ken Hamlin to play through his sprained ankle in Week 15 against the Giants.
Hamlin will do so at less than 100 percent if he's active. Dallas' center fielder has only two pass breakups in 2008 after recording 15 last season.

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips was less confident Wednesday about Ken Hamlin's (ankle) chances of playing in Week 15.
Phillips said Hamlin probably won't practice this week, and he's not sure Hamlin will be able to play against the Giants. Anthony Henry would slide over to safety if Hamlin can't go.
