Lions beat writer Tom Kowalski suggests that Aaron Brown could move into a "hybrid" receiver/tailback as a second-year player.
Brown showed plenty of explosiveness on his limited touches as a rookie, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and 9.3 yards per catch despite getting the ball just 36 times. He may battle an incoming player for third-down back duties.

Beat writer Tom Kowalski confirms that the Lions will "likely" look for a new starting running back this offseason.
Incumbent Kevin Smith is coming off a torn ACL, and potentially more knee damage the team hinted at but never revealed. Kowalski says the Lions "like (Smith) and Aaron Brown in backup roles," and both should be on the 2010 roster. Maurice Morris finished the year fairly strong, but will be on the bubble.

Lions RB Aaron Brown missed Friday's practice with an illness and is listed as questionable for Week 15.
The rookie was "limited" in Thursday's workout with the same issue. Cedric Peerman will probably take over the change-of-pace role behind Maurice Morris if Brown can't play against Arizona. No one here is a fantasy option.

Lions coordinator Scott Linehan confirmed that Maurice Morris will be used in a feature back role similar to the way Kevin Smith was used.
"I'd like to see Maurice be able to get those carries," said Linehan. "He basically gets everything that Kevin was getting." Fullback Jerome Felton could be used in short-yardage, however, and Aaron Brown is expected to be used as a change-of-pace back. Morris is no better than a desperation flex play this week against the Cardinals.

Lions claimed CB/KR Brian Witherspoon on waivers from the Jaguars.
This is the fallout from Aaron Brown landing in coach Jim Schwartz's doghouse. Witherspoon will likely take over both kickoff returns and punt returns for the Lions. If healthy, he's a significant upgrade.

Lions KR/RB Aaron Brown has been pulled off kick returns for a "bonehead play" he made during Sunday's loss to the Ravens.
Brown fielded a kickoff at the one-yard line instead of letting it bounce through the end zone. Rookie Derrick Williams is now the full-time kick returner. "I don't want to say it's his last chance," coach Jim Schwartz said of Brown. "But sometimes, another chance doesn't come." Brown will still be needed in the offensive backfield with Kevin Smith done for the season.
