Speaking publicly for the first time since early November on Sunday, Jamal Lewis left the door open when asked if he'll try to play in 2010.
"Try to" is the key word here; Lewis is almost certain to be released in the offseason if he's not placed on the reserve/retired list. "When I can get healthy again, that will be a decision I'll have to sit back and make," he said. Lewis is still meeting with specialists regularly after being diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome that ultimately ended his season.

 Jamal Lewis-RB - Browns Dec. 3 - 8:39 pm et

Jamal Lewis' (injured reserve, concussion) teammates on the Browns expect him to follow through on his plans to retire after the season.
Lewis promised to retire after a frustrating loss to the Bears earlier in the season, and he's spoken of it frequently since. He would finish 21st on the NFL all-time rushing list with 10,607 yards. The highlight of his career was the 2003 performance, rushing for the second-highest single season total with 2,066 yards. The Browns' 2010 starter is not likely on the current roster.

Browns placed RB Jamal Lewis on injured reserve with "post-concussion symptoms," ending his season.
Lewis' 2009 season -- his last, if he makes good on his retirement plan -- ends with career lows in total yards (588), touchdowns (0), catches (8), and rushing yards per game (55.6). His 3.5 YPC average was the second lowest of his 10-year career. We've heard some observers call Lewis a possible and even probable Hall of Famer, but that's unlikely. While Lewis' 2003 season was one of the most dominant by a running back all-time, he only made one Pro Bowl and didn't have enough sustained success.

Jamal Lewis (concussion) has been formally ruled out for Week 13.
The Browns could place him on injured reserve later this week, or keep Lewis on the roster for the rest of 2009 despite reportedly already shutting him down. Either way, there is very little doubt that Lewis' season is finished.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Browns plan to place Jamal Lewis on injured reserve, ending his season.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Lewis suffered a "serious" concussion in last week's loss to Cincinnati, and an MRI showed "abnormalities" in his brain. If so, this will likely be Lewis' final NFL season. He's said previously that he intends to retire after the year. A league source tells PFT that the Browns will replace Lewis on the roster with former Bengal DeDe Dorsey, who just got done leading the Las Vegas Locomotives to a UFL title.

According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, there is mounting speculation that the Browns will shut down Jamal Lewis for the season.
Lewis, who's battled ankle woes throughout 2009 and for much of the last few years, was nowhere to be found on the practice field Wednesday. He also was not in the locker room prior to practice. If he goes on I.R., Chris Jennings would be the favorite to finish the season as Cleveland's starting tailback.
