Brian Westbrook confirmed that he was not completely healed from his October 25 concussion when he returned to game action three weeks later last season.
Westbrook, though, didn't deny or confirm reports that he's considering retirement, which reportedly could be due to knee problems instead of his multiple head injuries. He did indicate that his concussions are a big concern going forward. Westbrook, going on 31, is due a whopping $7.25M in 2010.

Donovan McNabb says Brian Westbrook (concussions, knee) is not considering retirement, despite speculation otherwise.
"(Westbrook) looks forward to getting back," McNabb said. "All the talk people are saying on retirement or whatever it may be, it’s all false." It's worth noting that Eagles beat writer Les Bowen also believes Westbrook will keep playing. 31 before next season, Westbrook missed all but eight games in 2009.

Eagles beat writer Les Bowen isn't buying the report that Brian Westbrook's troublesome left knee will force him to retire.
Bowen says it sounds like B-West retiring is what the Birds' front office hopes will happen. That way, it won't be as ugly when they are forced to release one of their most popular players once again. An Eagles spokesman says the team isn't aware of Westbrook seeking medical opinions on his knee or contemplating retirement. Westbrook isn't likely to be back with the Eagles, but that doesn't necessarily mean his career is over.

Brian Westbrook may have to retire, reports Philadelphia radio host Howard Eskin.
Perhaps no Philadelphia media member is as plugged in to the Eagles as Eskin, so this report has validity. Eskin says Westbrook's troublesome left knee is the career-threatening issue, not his concussions. Westbrook, 30, is due $7.5 million in 2010 and is extremely unlikely to be back with the Eagles. He'll visit with doctors about the knee and Eskin says B-West could have trouble passing a physical for another team. It's looking more and more like a great career will end on a sad note.

The Eagles were 7-1 this year when Brian Westbrook didn't play and 4-5 when he did.
The writing is on the wall. LeSean McCoy is expected to become the lead back in 2010 while the team moves away from Westbrook, who is due $7.5M next season. It's possible that Westbrook will return at a reduced rate, but the Eagles are likely looking to move on.

Brian Westbrook is scheduled to make $7.5 million in 2010.
One of the greatest Eagles ever almost certainly will not be back at that price. At the very least, he'll be asked to take a major pay cut. At most, we know the Eagles aren't afraid to let popular veterans go (see Brian Dawkins, Jeremiah Trotter). Even if he returns in 2010, Westbrook will be part of a committee with LeSean McCoy and impending restricted free agent Leonard Weaver.
