Chargers released SS Clinton Hart.
Bolts GM A.J. Smith doesn't make many personnel mistakes, but handing Hart a six-year, $18M extension in 2008 was one of them. Hart simply couldn't cover anyone, loved biting on play-action fakes, and completely lost his confidence. Steve Gregory and rookie Kevin Ellison are options to step in.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart is expected to keep his starting job, but lose snaps on passing downs to Steve Gregory.
It's an IDP situation to avoid. Like Roy Williams used to in Dallas, Hart will play on first and second down, then come off the field on thirds. It's because he's a liability in coverage. His big-play potential is minimal.

Chargers SS Clinton Hart blames his struggles in 2008 on playing hurt.
Hart did break a bone in his hand in September and seemed to never get over a Week 13 stinger, but blaming bad years on injury sure is common among San Diego defensive backs. After being relentlessly burnt by tight ends in 2008, Hart will have to hold off rookie Kevin Ellison to keep his job.

Chargers coach Norv Turner confirmed that rookie SS Kevin Ellison will compete for Clinton Hart's starting job.
Turner also declared the injury-plagued Ellison 100 percent physically. IDP leaguers should keep an eye on the sixth-rounder this summer.

Chargers S Clinton Hart admits that the coaching staff has lost confidence in him, and that he's lost confidence in himself.
Terrible coverage cost Hart his starting job down the stretch last year and the team drafted Kevin Ellison as a potential long-term replacement. "The coaches have lost faith in me," he said. "I've lost a little faith in myself."
