Though he acknowledges that it "would be tough" to return to the Jets, Chad Pennington said he'd entertain the opportunity to back up Mark Sanchez.
Dolphins beat writer Armando Salguero puts the odds of Pennington returning to Miami at 50-50, so there's a good chance he'll be "playing the free agent game." Provided he's healthy, Pennington would be a major upgrade on Kellen Clemens for a team expected to contend in 2010.

Free agent Chad Pennington (shoulder surgery) indicated Thursday that he would be open to "all comers" if the Dolphins elect not to re-sign him.
Penny will visit Dr. James Andrews on Feb. 15 to get clearance for throwing. With no damage to the rotator cuff, he's expected to make a full recovery. The Dolphins already have Tyler Thigpen and Pat White behind Chad Henne, so they may opt to pass. Arizona would be an ideal fit for player and team.

Free agent Chad Pennington (shoulder surgery) "has decided to make it his priority to stay with the Dolphins," according to the Miami Herald's Jeff Darlington.
Pennington is willing to back up Chad Henne, and the Dolphins will "entertain the possibility" only after they see him throw -- specifically a 15-yard out route. His shoulder was discovered to have only damage to the labrum and the shoulder capsule, leading to expectations of a full recovery. If Miami opts against re-signing him (Pat White and Tyler Thigpen are under contract), the Cardinals are believed to have interest in Pennington as veteran insurance behind Matt Leinart.

 Kerry Collins-QB - Titans Feb. 2 - 5:26 pm et  

The Titans are expected to approach Kerry Collins about "potentially working out some arrangement for him to stay on."
Collins won't be back unless he agrees to take a pay-cut from his $5.5M salary. He likes the area, though, so he's expected to be amenable to a restructured deal. The Nashville City Paper expects the Titans to pursue Chad Pennington if Collins doesn't stay.

Dolphins VP of football operations Bill Parcells says it is his understanding that free agent Chad Pennington intends to keep playing.
Pennington said last month that he'll pursue a chance to start. There are plenty of teams that need starting quarterbacks, but his market value will be limited coming off a third surgery on his throwing shoulder. Pennington will have to go to a place like St. Louis to compete for a starting job.

Chad Pennington, an impending unrestricted free agent, is seeking a shot at a starting job.
Given some of the quarterback situations around the league (St. Louis, Buffalo), Pennington probably has a chance at a starting opportunity even though he'll be 34 and coming off his third shoulder surgery. The Dolphins may not be an option as a backup with Tyler Thigpen and Pat White in the fold.
