Free agent NT Jason Ferguson says it's a "toss up" as to whether he'll keep playing football.
Ferguson, 35, won't be recovered from his torn quadriceps muscle until early in the summer. "I don't want to hold them up," he said. The Dolphins are needy at every level on defense. Nose tackle may be their No. 1 priority.

The Dolphins are expected to make nose tackle a priority this offseason.
Impending free agent Jason Ferguson (torn quadriceps) is 35, but wants to re-sign for 2010. The Fins' run defense slipped from No. 7 to No. 14 with Ferguson out of the lineup in the last six weeks. Ferguson may return, but Miami needs to target a long-term solution at the position in the early rounds of the draft. Alabama's Terrence Cody would be an ideal pick.

Dolphins NT Jason Ferguson said on Friday that he would love to return to the Dolphins in 2010 if his recovery from a season-ending quadriceps injury goes well.
"That's what I'd love to do. If the recovery is good, I'll be good," Ferguson stated. Last offseason, the 35-year old run-stuffing team captain said that he would retire if the Dolphins didn't extend his contract. His current deal expires after this season, but Ferguson clearly still has the drive to keep playing.

Dolphins placed NT Jason Ferguson on injured reserve with a torn quadriceps muscle, ending his season.
The injury was initially believed to be to Ferguson's knee, but coach Tony Sparano clarified Monday that it's to his thigh. The Fins have a capable reserve nose tackle in Paul Soliai, who is much bigger and younger than Ferguson. Last offseason, the 35-year-old Ferguson stated that he would retire in 2010 if Miami didn't extend his contract. His current deal is expiring.

The Dolphins are planning to finish out the season without NT Jason Ferguson (knee).
Ferguson injured his right knee in Thursday night's win in Carolina. Beat writer Omar Kelly says that with six weeks remaining, it is likely that he will be placed on season-ending injured reserve. Ferguson, 34 at the end of the month, is in the last year of his contract, so his career may be over. Tony McDaniel and Randy Starks will fill in.

The Dolphins reportedly believe Jason Ferguson's knee injury is "serious," and he'll be sent for an MRI on Friday.
Beat writer Armando Salguero expects Ferguson to miss time, but it remains to be seen if he's done for the season. The Dolphins, who surrendered 182 yards on the ground at Carolina, badly need Ferguson to stop the run.
