 Casey Hampton-DL- SteelersJan. 27 - 2:20 pm et
NFL.com's Jason La Canfora confirms that the Steelers consider retaining free agent NT Casey Hampton an offseason priority.
Owner Art Rooney II said as much a couple of weeks back. La Canfora also says Pittsburgh is trying hard to retain free agent FS Ryan Clark. Clark isn't a candidate for the franchise tag, but Hampton will likely get it if the sides can't work out a 2-3 year deal. There's next to no chance Hampton gets away.

 Ryan Clark-DB - Steelers Jan. 25 - 1:15 am et

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes that free agent FS Ryan Clark could get more money on the open market than from the Steelers.
Clark wants to return and the team wants him back, but Pittsburgh probably isn't going to make both of its safeties among the highest-paid players on the roster. Troy Polamalu will definitely be back despite a $6.1M salary. Ryan Mundy is the Steelers' only in-house alternative, and isn't a good one.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark, due to hit free agency this offseason, indicated that he wants to return to Pittsburgh in 2010.
Pro Bowl NT Casey Hampton is also a free agent, and he's almost certain to test market. The hard-hitting Clark wouldn't draw as big of a payday, so he has a better chance of returning.

Steelers FS Ryan Clark did make the team flight to Denver for Monday night's game, but will not play.
He'll be among Pittsburgh's eight inactive players, but will be on the sideline to watch his teammates. While Clark brings a physical presence in the back end, the Broncos' passing game isn't dangerous enough to capitalize on his absence in a major way. Tyrone Carter is an adequate fill in.

NFL.com's Jason La Canfora confirms that Steelers FS Ryan Clark is likely to be held out Monday night against Denver because of his sickle-cell trait.
This is the smart move by Pittsburgh, as Clark could risk career or even life threatening complications in the thin air. Tyrone Carter is a veteran in Dick LeBeau's defense and plenty capable of filling in adequately at free safety.

 Tyrone Carter-DB - Steelers Nov. 4 - 9:50 am et

Tyrone Carter is expected to start at free safety if Ryan Clark (sickle-cell trait) decides not to play in Denver this week.
Coach Mike Tomlin also mentioned Ryan Mundy, Deshea Townsend and Keiwan Ratliff as possible fill-ins, but Carter makes the most sense. He has safety experience, even though it's mostly at strong safety, and has been in this defense for six years. Don't expect to much of a drop off if Clark sits out.
