Beat writer Tony Grossi says that if the Browns don't trade Shaun Rogers, he could be shifted to defensive end in the Browns' 3-4 defense.
In that scenario, Ahtyba Rubin would take over at nose tackle -- a spot he excelled at after Rogers went down in November. The Browns would be vastly improved on the defensive line if Rogers can return to form in 2010 next to Rubin.

The Browns' run defense improved by 44 yards per game after NT Shaun Rogers was placed on injured reserve in late November.
They also held opposing teams to just two rushing scores in the final five games. Ahtyba Rubin appears to be better than Rogers at holding the point of attack and tying up blockers while Rogers excels at getting upfield. With the three-time Pro Bowler due $6.9M in 2010, the team is expected to entertain trade offers.

Browns placed NT Shaun Rogers on injured reserve with a broken leg, ending his season.
Rogers will need surgery to repair what may be a fractured ankle in addition to the broken leg. Such a serious injury could jeopardize Rogers' status for Week 1 in 2010. Turning 31 in March, Rogers is due a $6.9 million base salary next season. He's the Browns' most valuable player on either side of the ball, but isn't a lock to return under a new front office.

Browns NT Shaun Rogers will reportedly miss the rest of 2009 with an injury to his ankle or Achilles' tendon.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer doesn't have the nature of the injury yet, but is reporting that it's significant enough to cost Rogers the final five games. He had to be carted off the field Sunday and was spotted on crutches afterwards. The Browns' run and pass defenses will both be adversely affected.

Browns NT Shaun Rogers (ankle) was spotted hobbling out of the stadium on crutches after Sunday's loss.
Rogers' face looked "distraught," and the Cleveland Plain Dealer speculates that the All Pro could be out for an "extended period," which would ruin an already ineffective Browns run defense. Rogers' backup on the nose is Ahtyba Rubin, who's never started a game in his two-year career.

Browns NT Shaun Rogers was carted off with an apparent left ankle injury late in Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Easily the Browns' most valuable defender, Rogers had his ankle rolled up on a Larry Johnson run. He's done for the day.
