Though he admitted Roy Williams' contract is a "major consideration," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones reiterated his belief that the underachieving receiver has elite NFL talent.
Williams isn't going anywhere this offseason. Coach Wade Phillips backed his owner, blaming himself for not finding a way to help Williams play better "within the whole scheme." Due to make $12.95M in 2010, Williams is no more than a bit part in the Cowboys offense.

 Kevin Ogletree-WR - Cowboys Jan. 21 - 10:37 am et

The San Antonio Express-News believes Roy Williams is "stopping the progress of undrafted rookie Kevin Ogletree."
The Dallas Morning News makes a similar argument, that Ogletree would have surpassed Williams by the playoffs had the Cowboys worked him into the offense earlier in the season. Ogletree is certainly a name to track in Dynasty leagues, but he's a longshot to take Williams' starting job before the start of the 2010 season.

Roy Williams "is certain" to return to the Cowboys in 2010, a source tells ESPN's Ed Werder.
Williams is owed $9 million in guaranteed money, so this wasn't much of a question. The wildly disappointing receiver struggled for virtually the entire year before being phased out of the offense late. We expect him to face competition for his starting job next season.

 Roy Williams-WR - Cowboys Jan. 18 - 2:43 am et

Roy Williams expressed more frustration with his minimal role in Dallas' offense following Sunday's season-ending playoff loss.
Asked if he had any plays called for him, Williams replied "No. Hell no." "I didn't get a ball today," he added. "It pisses me off, especially when we lose and especially when...I got a 5-10 corner (covering me, Antonio Winfield). But hey, you know, I will continue to work hard in the offseason and it will come back around." Williams is guaranteed $9 million in 2010, so his roster spot is likely not in danger. His starting job should be.

 Roy Williams-WR - Cowboys Jan. 17 - 5:11 pm et

Seeing just one target, Roy Williams went catch-less in the Cowboys' season-ending playoff loss to the Vikings.
Including the playoffs, Williams topped 60 yards once in the last nine games of a disastrous season. The $54 million receiver clearly lacks confidence in addition to separation skills and sure hands. The Cowboys probably won't cut Roy E. this offseason, but he needs to face competition for his job.
 Roy Williams-WR - Cowboys Jan. 9 - 11:45 pm et

Roy Williams caught five passes for 59 yards against the Eagles in Saturday night's wild card round victory.
Williams was involved early and often, targeted eight times. He could have strolled into the end zone on a short pass, but he tripped over his own feet and fell short. The least explosive member of the Cowboys passing attack, Williams is a borderline WR3 at Minnesota next week.
