The National Football Post reports that Daunte Culpepper will not return to the Lions in 2010.
Culpepper, 33 later this month, also will generate little interest on the open market. Options for the Lions, who will be searching for a veteran backup: Chad Pennington, Chris Redman, and likely-to-be-cut Rams QB Marc Bulger.

Unrestricted free agent Daunte Culpepper indicated that he's leaving the door open on returning to the Lions.
GM Martin Mayhew said Tuesday that Culpepper could be an option as the backup again in 2010. Culpepper responded by saying that he's "honored" to be considered for the role. He should be. The Lions can do a lot better for a veteran clipboard holder.

GM Martin Mayhew surprisingly indicated that impending free agent Daunte Culpepper could be back with the Lions next season.
Culpepper was awful in 2009, with a 56.7 completion percentage and three touchdowns to six interceptions. Drew Stanton was even worse, however, and the Lions aren't prepared to turn the No. 2 job over to him.

Impending free agent Daunte Culpepper talked as if he didn't expect to be back with the Lions next season.
Culpepper still believes he can start in the NFL, which leads us to believe his mind is breaking down as fast as his body. He started 10 games for the Lions over the last two seasons and won none. The NFL is short on QB talent, but it wouldn't be surprising if Culpepper falls out of the league this year.

Daunte Culpepper completed 23-of-34 passes for 262 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in Week 17 against the Bears.
Culpepper got the nod over Drew Stanton for the finale, but it's hard to imagine him being back in Detroit as Matthew Stafford's backup again next year. Of course, it was hard to imagine him throwing 157 passes this year, but he did so while averaging under six yards per attempt with six picks versus three scores.

Daunte Culpepper will start for the Lions on Sunday against the Bears.
Culpepper took all of the first-team practice reps this week and will get the nod over Drew Stanton. Culpepper, 33 later this month, is an unrestricted free agent after the season.
