Joe Sakic is enjoying his retirement.
When asked if he would consider coming out of retirement to play again one day he responded, "I'm sure one day down the road I'll play pick-up hockey, but I don't see that in the near future. I won't miss training camp, but I'm sure once I start watching the games, I'll be wishing I was out there. But I made the right decision. I'm very happy about it." He was busy hosting the 12th annual, Joe Sakic Celebrity Golf Tournament on Thursday and will continue to coach his young sons in their hockey development. It would not be far fetched to see Joe down the road in the front office on an NHL club though.

Joe Sakic will retire from the NHL Thursday, according to the Denver Post.
The Post says that the Avalanche have confirmed the report and a news conference Thursday at 1 pm will be the official announcement. Sakic is one of the best hockey players to play the game and a consummate professional that was adored by teammates and fans the past 20 years. He is a certain Hall-of-Famer that will finish with 625 goals and 1641 points in 1378 games - all with the Colorado/Quebec franchise. Say it ain't so, Burnaby Joe.

Joe Sakic was invited to Team Canada's training camp for the 2010 Winter Olympic hockey club.
This could indicate that Sakic will return next season as his intentions for the 2009-10 campaign have not been officially announced yet. Hockey Canada executive director Steve Yzerman said that he intended to send Sakic an invite whether he was coming back for another year of NHL hockey or not. He has supposedly told the Avalanche his decision, but the rest of us will have to wait until next week at the earliest to hear the news. Stay tuned.

 Joe Sakic-C - Avalanche Jun. 27 - 9:38 am et

Joe Sakic has apparently made up his mind about whether he wants to continue playing and has told the Avalanche of his intentions.
The Avs aren't saying anything at this point and will likely wait a week until Sakic returns from vacation before making any announcement. If Sakic has decided to return, Colorado is going to have to make some trades to clear up cap room for Sakic or ask the veteran pivot to take a sizeable pay cut. Stay tuned.
