The Ottawa Senators don't consider themselves a serious contender for Peter Forsberg.
GM Bryan Murray isn't sure the Senators could find a way to stay under the cap if they signed Forsberg. It's believed that Forsberg would want a one-year/$4 million deal, but the Senators are currently close to the $56.8 million cap. "He brings a dimension to a team if he’s healthy, but I just don’t know how it would ever work," said Murray. Forsberg still hasn't committed to playing in the NHL this season. However, he did participate in the Karjala Cup in an attempt to determine if he's up to playing. If the Senators were to pull out of the race, that would still leave the New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, Vancouver Canucks, Washington Capitals, and Philadelphia Flyers among the teams that have expressed interest in Forsberg.
