The Columbus Blue Jackets have fired head coach Ken Hitchcock.
The Jackets named assistant coach Claude Noel as their interim head coach as well on Wednesday. "This season has been very disappointing for the Blue Jackets organization and our fans and the responsibility for that rests with all of us from management to the coaches and players," said general manager Scott Howson. Columbus has a 22-27-9 record this season and currently sit 14th in the Western Conference. Hitchcock will likely find a job somewhere else.

Antoine Vermette scored the lone goal for the Blue Jackets in Columbus' 5-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
It was his 18th goal and 43rd point of the season. Vermette has been relatively serviceable since moving from the Ottawa Senators to Columbus last year, with 24 goals and 55 points in 75 games overall. Rick Nash assisted on his goal.

The Columbus Blue Jackets will open their 2010-11 season in Stockholm, Sweden against the San Jose Sharks, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
They will play on Oct. 7, 2010, in the Ericsson Globe, but it is unclear at this time if they will play San Jose again in their second contest and if that game will be played in Stockholm as well. Stay tuned.

Rick Nash scored his 24th goal of the season Saturday night as Columbus fell 4-2 to Minnesota.
Nash also assisted on Antoine Vermette’s 16th marker of the year in the loss.

Rick Nash is on a three game goal scoring streak after going 11 games without a marker.
Nash has four goals and five points in his last three games, giving him 23 goals and 47 points in 52 games this season. His fantasy value is curtailed by a minus-12 rating, but he is plus-two in his last three.

R.J. Umberger had two goals Tuesday night, but Columbus fell 5-3 to the Flyers.
