The IIHF will allow Jiri Hudler to sign with Dynamo Moscow of the Continental Hockey League.
There was a chance Hudler would not receive approval because he signed a KHL contract while simultaneously filing for salary arbitration with the Detroit Red Wings. However, an IIHF investigation determined that it was Hudler's agent who had filed for salary arbitration on Hudler's behalf and Hudler didn't sign the filing notice. The IIHF therefore ruled that the arbitration filing was invalid and Hudler could sign with Dynamo Moscow. Red Wings GM Ken Holland had already said Hudler would not be playing for Detroit this season, regardless of the IIHF's findings.

Jiri Hudler is not in Detroit's plans this season even if he cannot play in the KHL, according to GM Ken Holland.
Hudler still hasn't received an internation transfer card from the Internation Ice Hockey Federation to play in the KHL because he signed a contract with Moscow Dynamo while simultaneously filing for salary arbitration with the Wings this off-season. " He won't be back. There is no agreement between the Russians and the National Hockey League. Basically in the third week of July, the president of the Russian KHL league ruled that Jiri Hudler was eligible to play the upcoming season in the KHL," Holland said. Bottom line, only draft him if you're in a KHL fantasy league.

Jiri Hudler is still waiting to receive an international transfer card (ITC) in order to play in Europe this season.
USA Hockey needs to sign off on the deal to allow Hudler to suit up for Moscow Dynamo or else the KHL club would face sanctions from the IIHF. The ITC needs signatures from the incoming federation (Russia), the outgoing federation (USA Hockey) and the player to become official. This an interesting development as the Red Wings are already working under the assumption that Hudler is gone for this season, after giving him permission to play in Russia, and his return to the organization would certainly hurt their salary cap situation if he does not receive his ITC.

Jiri Hudler was a topic of discussion during HockeyFest 2009 at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit over the weekend.
Wings' general manager Ken Holland did his best to explain the situation. Here is what he said: "He's playing in the KHL, he's gone, but at some point in time we'll suspend him. He'll come off our cap but we'll continue to own his rights. He's got a two-year contract. Whenever he chooses to come back -- if and when he ever chooses to come back and play in the NHL -- he's got to honor this contract for two seasons." Hudler agreed to a two-year pact with Moscow Dynamo in the KHL in July, but was awarded a two-year NHL contract with Detroit through arbitration. His KHL deal allows him to leave after one season, so he could be back in the NHL next campaign; at which point the Red Wings would welcome him back with open arms. "He's 26 years of age, he had 60 points last year (actually 23 goals, 34 assists)," Holland said. "It's hard to find 26-year-olds that can get 60 points. Absolutely he's welcome back."

Jiri Hudler was awarded a two-year/$5.75 million contract by an arbitrator.
Hudler has already signed a two-year/$10 million deal to play with the KHL's Moscow Dynamo. However, his two-year/$5.75 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings will take effect when/if Hudler ever decides to return to the NHL. "Obviously, he's going to Russia because it's an opportunity for a financial windfall," said Wings GM Ken Holland. "But, right now, his plans are to come back and play in the NHL and come back and play for the Red Wings." With Hudler gone, the Red Wings will be looking to sign a forward capable of scoring 15 or more goals next season.

Jiri Hudler has every intention of playing in Russia next season.
"Every conversation I've had with (Hudler's agent) Petr Svoboda he's told me he was playing in Russia," said Wings' GM Ken Holland. "Hudler has publicly announced he's playing in Russia, so let's use some common sense. (Svoboda) told me Hudler is coming back after two years. If he doesn't like it, he'll come back after one." Hudler signed a two-year, $10 million with Moscow Dynamo, of the KHL, in early July. The Wings are still waiting for his arbitration case to be settled, so he has a salary when he decides to return to the NHL.
