Manny Legace made 21 saves in the Hurricanes' 4-3 overtime loss to the Islanders Friday night.
It was Legace's second start since signing with the Hurricanes earlier this week. Although Legace played better than he did in a 5-2 loss to the Kings on Wednesday, he still was saddled with a loss. Despite the result, expect him to get the bulk of the starts for as long as Cam Ward is out.

Manny Legace will make his Carolina debut on Wednesday night against the Kings.
Legace was just signed to a one-year, two-way contract by the Hurricanes on Monday after it was learned number one goalie Cam Ward would be sidelined a month with a lacerated leg. He is expected to share action with Michael Leighton in the Canes' crease until Ward's return.

Cam Ward (leg) was released from the hospital Monday morning.
Ward had been in Riverside Methodist Hospital since his leg was accidentally slashed by Coluimbus' Rick Nash on Saturday. He's expected to miss about a month with a lacerated thigh.

The Hurricanes signed Manny Legace to a two-way, one year contract worth $500,000.
With goalie Cam Ward out at least a month with a lacerated leg, the 'Canes were desperate for help between the pipes. Legace was playing with the Chicago Wolves of the AHL after being cut from the Thrashers in training camp. He wasn't exactly tearing up the minors with a 2-2-1 record, 3.21 GAA and .898 save percentage. He will likely split time with Michael Leighton.

Cam Ward will miss at least one month with a lacerated leg, according to GM Jim Rutherford.
The back of Ward's leg was slashed by Blue Jackets forward Rick Nash in a freak incident Saturday. Rutherford said the injury isn't of the season-ending variety. Still, look for the Canes to acquire goaltending help since they are woefully thin at the position with just backup Michael Leighton and unheralded youngster Justin Peters in the system.

Cam Ward will be out for a long time with a lacerated leg, according to GM Jim Rutherford.
Ward will remain in a Columbus hospital for another day as he recovers from the injury. The Hurricanes will look to sign or trade for another goalie, Rutherford said. Michael Leighton is Ward's backup, but he can't be counted on to carry the load in Ward's absence.
