The Phoenix Coyotes have sent Al Montoya to the minors.
Montoya was drafted sixth overall by the New York Rangers five years ago, but has yet to really make a break through at the NHL level. Jason LaBarbera will now back up Ilya Bryzgalov in the desert.

Al Montoya will get the start in goal on Friday for Phoenix.
Montoya is in a battle with Jason LaBarbera to back up Ilya Bryzgalov. Bryzgalov should get the large majority of the starts, giving both Montoya and LaBarbera minimal fantasy value at best.

Al Montoya will get the start in goal for Phoenix on Thursday.
Montoya got some game action on Tuesday when he replaced Ilya Bryzgalov at the start of the third period. Montoya gave up six goals in his last start on Saturday and will get another chance to redeem himself against the NHL leading San Jose Sharks. Put him in only if you are desperate for a win and have no other alternatives.

 Ilya Bryzgalov-G - Coyotes Apr. 8 - 1:29 am et

Ilya Bryzgalov was yanked from between the pipes in a 5-1 loss to St. Louis.
The veteran netminder allowed fur goals on 21 shots before being replaced by rookie Al Montoya. The change came too late, with Montoya letting in one goal on three shots.

Al Montoya gave up six goals on 32 shots in the Coyotes 6-1 loss to Los Angeles on Saturday.
It was Montoya's first loss after two wins this week in which he gave up only one goal on 44 shots. His goals-against-average is now 2.33 after coming into the game at a microscopic 0.50. It should be interesting to see if Wayne Gretzky puts him in goal next game to see how he responds or does The Great One go back to Ilya Bryzgalov. Stay tuned.
