Jussi Jokinen scored his 18th goal of the season as the Hurricanes lost to the Edmonton Oilers 4-2.
Jokinen has scored in each of the last three games for the Hurricanes. Eric Staal recorded an assist on Jokinen’s third-period power-play goal. Staal now has 14 points in nine games. Andrew Alberts scored the other Carolina goal in the first period.
 Sergei Samsonov-W - Hurricanes Jan. 30 - 9:52 pm et

Sergei Samsonov recorded one goal and one assist in the Hurricanes' 4-2 win over Chicago Saturday night.
Samsonov has been one of the keys to last place Carolina's four-game win streak, recording three goals and an assist over that span. Jussi Jokinen netted one for the Hurricanes, giving him three goals and two assists in his last four. Tom Kostopolous and Andrew Alberts both finished with two helpers.

Brandon Sutter scored in the first period as the Carolina Hurricanes lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 Friday night.
This was Sutter’s third goal of the season all coming in the Canes' last four games. Sergei Samsonov scored the other goal for Carolina. Rod Brind’Amour, Joe Corvo, Andrew Alberts, and Jussi Jokinen registered assists in the loss.

Hurricanes coach Paul Maurice is not happy with the number of penalties Carolina has taken so far this season.
Carolina has been charged with a league-high 39 minor penalties in five games this season. Maurice thinks it's a significant factor in their 2-3-0 start, especially considering how much it's drained their penalty killing lines. "I am worried about it," Maurice said. "It really changes the entire complexion of every game we've played. But I think where it's really affected us is our back-to-back nights." Andrew Alberts and Tom Kostopoulos will probably still be charged with a fair number of penalties, but look for Carolina to play a more disciplined game overall.
