Michael Grabner (ankle) is close to returning to active duty.
Grabner broke his ankle in a pre-game soccer warmup on Nov. 1. He had his first full practice on Thursday and will likely be sent down to the Manitoba Moose of the AHL upon his return. "My ankle feels fine," Grabner said. "Today (Thursday) was the first day I really felt nothing out there. So it was good. I think my shooting is fine and everything else is fine so I just have to get back in shape." Grabner has a lot of offensive potential but will not get a big chance to show it this season unless the Canucks have a plethora of injuries.

Michael Grabner (ankle) was back skating on Wednesday.
He suffered two fractures in his right ankle, back on Nov. 1, while warming up with a soccer ball before a game. "Wednesday was the first day I skated on it and it felt pretty good, but it was a little sore this morning, Grabner said. "For now, I'm going to go every second day. We're trying to push it a little bit every day and see how it feels and see how the foot reacts to it. We knew it was going to be sore and we just have to see that it doesn't get worse." There is no timetable set for his return, but Grabner believes he will be out for another two weeks. Unfortunately, for him he doesn't even have a roster spot guaranteed on the Canucks when he is healthy enough to play again.

Michael Grabner sustained a severe ankle injury during the Canucks' pregame warm-up Sunday.
"He hurt himself warming up and will be out for quite some time — it's undetermined," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault. "He flipped over on his ankle." Grabner was originally called up to help fill the void for Daniel Sedin, who is still out with a broken left foot. Vancouver has been hit hard by the injury bug early this season. They currently have six forwards and goaltender Roberto Luongo sidelined.

Michael Grabner had an assist in his NHL debut on Friday.
Grabner was called up due to the broken foot suffered by Daniel Sedin. He started the game on the top line with Henrik Sedin and Alexandre Burrows but played on the second power play unit with Ryan Kesler and Steve Bernier. He got his assist on the power play. "I was feeling pretty good out there, but I've still got to be better," Grabner said. "I think I played better than the preseason and used my speed better. I got some of the defense wide and got some opportunities early and was a couple of times by myself in front of the net. I just have to keep on doing it and I will get better as the games go on." Grabner was the 14th overall pick in the 2006 Entry Draft and the Canucks are quite high about his future. He makes a nice pick up in keeper leagues at this time.
