Max Pacioretty will start the regular season on the Canadiens' top line.
"We like the performance of Pacioretty," coach Jacques Martin said. "He brings speed and he has the ability to get in on the forecheck to retrieve the puck. He’s got a good shot and he understands the game." Pacioretty got his first taste of the NHL last season, scoring three goals and 11 points in 34 games. Montreal might shake up the lines again and Pacioretty could lose his spot as a top-six forward if he struggles early on. However, he's worth keeping an eye on and he could end up having some fantasy value this season.

Max Pacioretty will not play in Thursday's game against Boston.
Pacioretty is day-to-day with an upper-body injury he sustained in Montreal's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh on Monday. The injury came at a bad time for Pacioretty, who was taking advantage of an opportunity to play alongside Scott Gomez and Brian Gionta. "Yeah, it's frustrating to finally get my timing right and to finally feel good in a game and then to have to get pulled out at the end of the second period," Pacioretty said. "But I think I'll only get stronger from this because I've got my confidence back and I'm ready to go." The injury is not believed to be serious and Pacioretty said he would probably be playing if this was the regular season.

 Max Pacioretty-W - Canadiens Sep. 5 - 10:15 am et

Max Pacioretty has a real shot of making the Canadiens' opening day roster despite some steep competition.
The Canadiens enter training camp with 11 forwards and seven defenseman already locked up to one-way contracts. That doesn't leave much room for Pacioretty to make the team and he'll have to battle Kyle Chipchura, Matt D’Agostini, Gregory Stewart, and Ben Maxwell in training camp. However, Pacioretty has a bit of an upper hand after scoring three goals and 11 points in 34 NHL games last season. Pacioretty is hoping to contribute more offensively in 2009-10 spent most of the off-season doing strength training. The 6-foot-2, 192 pound forward reportedly reduced his body fat from 14% to 6% over the course of the summer.
