 Chris Butler-D - Sabres Dec. 27 - 9:04 am et

Chris Butler (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's game.
Butler hasn't played since December 3rd due to an ankle injury. Sabres coach Lindy Ruff says Butler's close to returning, but Ruff is likely to err on the side of caution. "I want to know he's ready," Ruff said. "We've seen a lot of times in the past where an ankle injury, a player says he's ready and you see a lot of setbacks. We don't want a setback. I want him to step in and be ready to play, and play with no tentativeness." We'll keep you posted.

 Patrick Kaleta-W - Sabres Dec. 26 - 1:58 pm et

Patrick Kaleta (neck) and defenseman Chris Butler (ankle) will not play on Saturday night for the Sabres.
"I don't like putting two or three guys in the lineup that haven't practiced or haven't played," coach Lindy Ruff said. "I've said in the past once they say they're ready, you should keep them out another game just to get them to really practice hard. Typically, a player's ready to play, but his body isn't ready to play. In Pat's case, he's had four, five days off. In Butler's case, he really hasn't had a full practice." Ruff added that both players are very close to returning to the lineup though.

 Chris Butler-D - Sabres Dec. 22 - 9:52 am et

Chris Butler skated with the Sabres on Monday for the first time since he suffered an ankle injury on December 3rd.
Butler also participated in a light skate with a few teammates on Saturday. "The frustrating thing is I'm fine walking around with no problems, but all the different pivoting and deflections with the skates kind of set it off again," Butler said. "It's night and day difference from now and when it first happened. I don't really have a timeline for now, it's just kind of get back in shape and do all the movements pain-free." Stay tuned.
