 Nikita Filatov-W- Blue JacketsFeb. 4 - 7:24 am et
The firing of Ken Hitchcock has to be good news for Nikita Filatov.
It was no secret that Filatov was not happy with Hitchcock at the helm as Filatov was given limited minutes at best when he was with the Blue Jackets. The ultra-talented offensive player was loaned to CSKA Moscow of the KHL as he was unhappy with the ice time he saw in Columbus. He should get a fresh start next season, or possibly after the Olympic break, as the Blue Jackets could use his scoring potential. Do not forget about him next season.

 Nikita Filatov-W - Blue Jackets Jan. 1 - 7:05 am et

Columbus GM Scott Howson will watch Nikita Filatov play at the World Junior Championships in Saskatchewan this week.
Howson said that he will talk to Filatov but it will be friendly and not hockey-related. Filatov, one of the most talented young players not in the NHL at this time, returned to Russia after playing with the Blue Jackets at the beginning of the season. He was unhappy with the ice time he saw because coach Ken Hitchcock would not give him a proper chance to play and is unlikely to return while Hitchcock is still in charge. Howson said that there was no way they were trading Filatov, so you have to wonder who will win this power play, as the Blue Jackets want Filatov playing in the NHL next season and not the KHL. Stay tuned as Filatov has 14 points in 12 KHL games this season.

 Karl Alzner-D - Capitals Dec. 28 - 1:50 pm et

The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Washington Capitals are reportedly on the verge of making a potentially blockbuster trade.
Although the players involved are not yet known, the Capitals will have Karl Alzner spend Monday's game in the press box. Alzner's omission from Monday's game has fueled speculation that he's involved in the deal, although it would take a fair amount for the Capitals to part with him. Nikita Filatov may also be involved in the deal. Filatov left the Blue Jackets to play the remainder of the season in the KHL because he felt Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock never gave him a chance. Stay tuned.

Nikita Filatov might still play in the NHL this season.
Filatov is currently playing for CSKA Moscow of the KHL, but the NHL regular season comes to a close a month later than the KHL's. GM Scott Howson said that the Blue Jackets still have the option of calling up Filatov if CSKA gets eliminated from the playoffs. Howson isn't sure if that's something the Blue Jackets would do, but Filatov doesn't think he'll play in Columbus again this season. "I am more than sure that Columbus will not call me any way for the final month," Filatov said. "They don't need me."

Nikita Filatov regrets some comments he made when he left the Blue Jackets last month, but thinks coach Ken Hitchcock did not give him a proper chance to play.
Filatov e-mailed The Columbus Dispatch and said he regretted some of his comments, but some were taken out of context. One comment he obviously does not regret was his statement about his coach. "I got my own opinion about Hitch and about what I think he thinks of me," Filatov wrote. "I am not going to let everybody know about it. I think it's pretty clear that he didn't give (me) a chance and opportunity to prove that I can play." Filatov will be back in North America to lead the Russian juniors in the Under-20 tournament that starts in Saskatchewan on Dec. 26. Look for Filatov to return to the Blue Jackets next season, especially if Hitchcock is gone.

 Nikita Filatov-W - Blue Jackets Nov. 25 - 9:58 am et

Nikita Filatov has played very well for CSKA Moscow, in the KHL, since being loaned to the Russian league team last week.
In two games, Filatov has registered three goals and two assists. "The style is pretty different," he said referring to play overseas. "The game maybe is not so aggressive and tough, but maybe more skilled and smart. You have to be in good position, especially because of the bigger-sized ice." He should be back with the Blue Jackets next season.
