The Capitals assigned Michael Nylander to Grand Rapids of the AHL.
This is a significant move because Nylander's salary will now come off the cap, which frees up $4.875 million. The Capitals still have to pay his salary, which is $5.5 million this season, but it means they have significantly more flexibility with their roster if they want to add anyone down the stretch. Nylander still has one more year left on his contract after this season. Source: Washington Post
