Coach Terry Murray said that Ryan Smyth has played like his old self the last four games.
Smyth returned from an upper body injury, that kept him out of the lineup for a month, on Dec. 26. "I would say that, in his last four games — I haven't really analyzed it — I have noticed a big change in his contribution, through the road trip and again last night," Murray said. "His reads, his comfort, his handling of the puck, his making plays, he’s skating better. It's just him feeling more involved and feeling more comfortable in his game. Playing with Stoll and Brown right now, it's a good thing, it's a good line. They're three veteran guys who are moving the puck around and doing some good things at both ends of the rink. He has responded very well." Smyth should be active in all but the shallowest of leagues.

 Anze Kopitar-C - Kings Feb. 3 - 12:59 am et

Anze Kopitar scored a goal in the Kings 2-1 win over the New York Rangers Tuesday night.
It was Kopitar's 24th goal of the season, extending his point streak to seven games. The former 1st round pick has 11 points in that span. Ryan Smyth scored the other goal for LA.

Anze Kopitar sniped twice as the Kings downed the Blue Jackets 4-1 Thursday night.
Kopitar now has 22 goals on the season. He got his 100th and 101st goals of his career. Ryan Smyth chipped in with a goal and an assist. Matt Greene got the other Kings goal.

Coach Terry Murray switched up his lines on Thursday and Ryan Smyth found himself on the second unit.
Smyth played with Dustin Brown and Jarret Stoll, while Anze Kopitar centered Brad Richardson and Wayne Simmonds on the top line. "Stoll's line was pretty good," Murray said. "They end up scoring a huge goal off the attack. It was pretty good. There were some things that I'd like to see them execute a little more consistently. I think you've got veteran guys there, and passing, receiving, hitting guys on stride with speed, I'd like to see that 100 percent of the time. I get a little picky in that area. I think they put themselves in some tough situations because of putting pucks behind them, or in their feet, or not receiving that pass in full stride. It takes away from what I'm looking for from those guys." Murray even split up Smyth and Kopitar on the power play. Look for both to get a quick boost with their new linemates, but for the duo to be back together shortly.

Ryan Smyth missed practice on Wednesday as he was an Olympic torch bearer in his hometown of Banff, Alberta.
The torch is making its way through Canada as it is headed to Vancouver. Smyth has to be pleased to receive such an honor. Sidney Crosby carried the torch in his home province of Nova Scotia earlier. Toronto GM Brian Burke also carried the torch in Toronto last month.

Ryan Smyth, Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown combined for 23 shots on goal in Thursday's 2-1 loss to Detroit.
Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard was sensational in the Detroit net, stopping 51 of 52 shots on goal. The 52nd shot of the game, by Ryan Smyth, was the only shot to elude Howard and then Detroit did not allow another shot on goal for the remaining 4:22 of the game. The 23 shots on are an amazing total for the top line as a lot of teams struggle to do that in a game. Look for the Kings trio to start scoring more often as they, especially Kopitar, have had trouble scoring points of late.
