Sheldon Souray suffered a broken hand in Saturday's 6-1 loss to Calgary.
Coach Pat Quinn said the team will have more news regarding his status on Sunday. Souray was injured during a fight with Flames' captain Jarome Iginla early in the third period. Now the Oilers, who are already missing their number one goalie (Nikolai Khabibulin) and their top forward (Ales Hemsky), may have to try to halt a 13-game winless skid without one of their better defensemen. When it rains, it pours. Or in Edmonton's case it monsoons. Stay tuned.

Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini is not looking to trade for a goaltender.
Tambellini stated that he will give Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers and Devan Dubnyk the starts the rest of the season as it appears that Nikolai Khabibulin is out as he will have back surgery on Thursday to repair a herniated disc. Drouin-Deslauriers and Dubnyk are the Oilers goalies of the future and Tambellini seems to be tossing this season away to give the duo valuable game experience. We cannot suggest taking them in fantasy pools as their peripherals will not be good the rest of the way.

Nikolai Khabibulin will undergo back surgery on Thursday.
The procedure will repair a herniated disc in his back that has kept him sidelined since Nov. 16. Khabibulin will be out indefinitely after appearing in just 18 games this season. Edmonton may take a run at available goaltenders in the NHL, as they are said to be interested in Montreal's Jaroslav Halak or they could try to acquire the Islanders' Martin Biron. For now though the Oilers will ride out Jeff Deslauriers and Devan Dubnyk.

Nikolai Khabibulin is expected to be heading to the operating table to repair a herniated disc in his ailing back.
Official word on the surgery could come as early as later on Wednesday for the Oilers' goaltender. Khabibulin has not played since Nov. 16. Stay tuned.

The Oilers are keeping the media in the dark with regards to Nikolai Khabibulin's (back) current status.
Khabibulin had a cortisone injection over two weeks ago in the hope that it might help in his attempts to return to Edmonton's lineup. However, Khabibulin hasn't skated since November 18th. It's still possible that Khabibulin will require season ending back surgery. Stay tuned.

Nikolai Khabibulin hasn't skated since November 18th due to a disc problem in his back.
It's looking more and more like Khabibulin will end up undergoing season-ending back surgery. Oilers coach Pat Quinn said they're still waiting for Khabibulin's "comfort level to get better." However, Quinn also said that he thinks that Khabibulin and his doctors are going to have to make some decisions soon. Stay tuned.
