Petr Sykora had season-ending abdominal surgery.
Sykora was released by the Wild on Jan. 28 and while he did have a couple of offers to play, he also had two large tears in his stomach according to his agent. His NHL career could be over.

The Minnesota Wild have released Petr Sykora.
Sykora was placed on unconditional waivers on Wednesday after he refused to report to the Wild's AHL farm team in Houston. He passed through waivers at noon ET on Thursday and then was released.

Petr Sykora has been assigned to the AHL by Minnesota, but he has officially declined to report.
The Wild and Sykora have decided to terminate his contract, and once the NHL office approves of the move, the 33-year-old winger will become an unrestricted free agent. He has been away from the team since being placed on waivers a little over a week ago. Stay tuned.

Petr Sykora has reportedly cleared waivers.
The Wild may decide to go the route of re-entry waivers. Sykora does have a European assignment clause, but that is presently an option that he does not want to take. Minnesota general manager Chuck Fletcher may have to try to work out a trade for the disgruntled winger. We will keep you posted.

Petr Sykora has been placed on waivers by the Minnesota Wild.
He has a European assignment clause in his contract, so the Wild will likely allow him to pursue that direction rather than sending him down to the AHL should he go unclaimed. Sykora never really fit in Minnesota and just returned to the lineup on Monday after being a healthy scratch for six straight games. He scored just two goals and one assist in 14 games, while earning a minus-7 rating.

Petr Sykora dressed on Monday night for the Wild.
He had served as a healthy scratch for the team's last six games before making his return. Sykora played 11:28 of ice time in the contest, while posting a minor penalty and a minus-1 rating. He played on Minnesota's top line with Mikko Koivu and Andrew Brunette, which bumped Antti Miettinen to the second unit with Owen Nolan and Eric Belanger.
