Ex-Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has agreed to be the Chiefs' new offensive coordinator, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
He'll reportedly be named Kansas City's new playcaller "within the next 24-48 hours." The fit is logical because Weis' offense is virtually the exact same as coach Todd Haley's, right down to the no-huddle heavy aspects. The approach won't change, but Weis' history of QB development and skillful use of adept pass-catching tailbacks bodes well for Matt Cassel and Jamaal Charles. At both the college and pro levels, Weis has also gotten outstanding production from far less talented receivers than Dwayne Bowe.

Dwayne Bowe caught one pass for six yards in Week 17 against the Broncos.
A fitting way to end a hugely disappointing season for Bowe, who went from 1,022 yards on 86 grabs in 2008 to just 589 yards on 47 catches this year. Matt Cassel's struggles and various issues with head coach Todd Haley didn't help, but Bowe remains one of the league's most physically gifted receivers.

Chiefs coach Todd Haley criticized Dwayne Bowe for not going after an overthrown ball that turned into an interception last week.
"Our rule is: If you’re in the vicinity of the ball and we can’t catch it, we can’t allow the other team to do so," Haley said. Haley is quick to throw guys in the doghouse, but it doesn't seem like that's a possibility in this case. Bowe should lead the Chiefs in targets for the third straight week against the Broncos Sunday.

Dwayne Bowe caught nine passes for 61 yards in Week 16.
Bowe was mostly useless after the catch against the Bengals' stout defense, but he was once again QB Matt Cassel's go-to target and finished with a fine stat line. Sadly, life doesn't get any easier next week as the Chiefs travel to Denver for a matchup with the Broncos.

Chiefs beat writer Josh Looney expects the rust Dwayne Bowe showed last week to be behind him.
Bowe was targeted 10 times in his first game off the four-week suspension, but only came up with four catches and dropped a would-be touchdown. Looney liked Bowe's speed and performance in the game and we consider Bowe a solid WR3 play this week.

Dwayne Bowe dropped three passes, including one for a would-be touchdown, in his return from suspension against Cleveland.
He's lucky he didn't get benched by coach Todd Haley's itchy trigger finger. Mark Bradley also had two drops, however, so it wasn't like Haley obviously had a better option. Bowe still led the Chiefs in targets with 10.
