Tadd Fujikawa shot 1-over-par 68-71-74-76=289 in the first stage of Q School at St. John's G&CC in St. Augustine, Florida, failing to advance to the second stage by six strokes.
Only three of the 68 golfers that played 72 holes had higher final rounds, and they finished outside the top-60. Fujikawa placed T-44 and will likely resume his globetrotting on sponsor exemptions in 2010. He's played in nine events worldwide this year. Several of the 22 that advanced from this site, where Russell Knox medaled (15-under 273) are notable, including former First-Team All-Americans Chris Kirk (T-2) and Billy Horschel (T-4); former PGA Tour members David Lutterus (T-6) and Brent Schwarzrock (T-18); and Jay Haas, Jr. (T-6). Joining Fujikawa as a notable that failed to advance was one-time PGA Tour member and Steve Stricker's brother-in-law, Mario Tiziani (T-26).

Tadd Fujikawa has been awarded a sponsor's exemption for next week's Valero Texas Open.
For whatever reason, only 144 of the 156 golfers scheduled to compete at La Cantera were listed in the published field at PGATour.com. Four of the remaining 12 will gain entry via Monday's open qualifier, leaving eight TBD for sponsor's exemptions, one of which goes to Fujikawa. The Hawaiian Monday qualified for the Sony Open and played the Honda and Puerto Rico on sponsor's invites, making the cut in all three, but has yet to post a Top 30.

Tadd Fujikawa carded a third round of 8-under-par 62 and moved onto the first page of the leaderboard at the Sony Open.
Fujikawa turned the front nine at 4-under-par and continued his hot streak on the back nine, with two more consecutive birdies. He cooled down at that point and reeled off five pars in a row. A wonderful approach at the par-3 17th hole allowed him to convert his eighth birdie of the day and his birdie on the final hole brought him to within one-shot of the course record of 61. Fujikawa left the 18th hole in a tie for the lead, but that was before the second round leaders had started their third rounds. On Sunday, the 18-year-old Fujikawa will be looking for his first win on the PGA Tour and to become the youngest person in history to win a PGA Tour event.

Tadd Fujikawa posted a round of 67 at the Turtle Bay Resort Palmer course and Monday qualified for this week's Sony Open.
Fujikawa was one of main stories out of the 2007 Sony Open, when he finished tied for 20th place even though he was a 16-year-old amateur at the time. Expect him to be one of the lead stories going into this week's Sony Open. Also making in into the field were Junpei Takayama with a round of 67 and John Lepak, who beat Derek Lamely and Jay Williamson in a playoff for the final spot in the field.
