Brandt Snedeker signed for a third round of 1-under-par 69 and is four-strokes off the lead at the Wyndham Championship.
Snedker started the day tied for the lead and at the turn his opening nine of 2-under-par 33 was still good enough for a share of the lead at an aggregate score of 14-under-par. The leaderboard saw a six-way tie for the lead as Snedeker parred the 11th hole, and he maintained a share of the lead after he dropped a 20-foot birdie-putt at the 13th hole. A couple of holes later Snedeker's round came unraveled, when an approach in the water at the par-5 15th led to a bogey, which was then followed up at the par-3 16th hole, with a three-putt bogey from eight feet.

Brandt Snedeker backed up his opening 63 with a bogey-free, 5-under-par 33-32=65 in the second round of the Wyndham Championship.
Sneds has hit just 25 greens, but he's taken a mere 51 putts through 36 holes. He didn't need the putter at the par-5 15th hole today, however, as he blasted in from a greenside bunker for eagle from 12 yards out. (He has now eagled both par 5s at Sedgefield already this week.) He also converted on birdie putts of 13'5" and 13'6" at the 5th and 8th holes, respectively, finishing with the clubhouse-leading 12-under 128.

Brand Snedeker carded a 7-under-par 33-30=63 in his opening round of the Wyndham Championship.
The 2007 Wyndham champ at Forest Oaks finished T5 at Sedgefield last year, and has posted top 20s in three of his last six starts this summer. After an eagle-3 at the 5th hole today, he stood at a bogey-free 2-under through 10. That's when he turned on the jets for six birdies over a seven-hole stretch, including five straight beginning at the 13th. The run included conversions of 24'6", 14'10" and 22'1" at the 11th, 13th and 14th holes. Snedeker held the clubhouse lead briefly before Arjun Atwal finished with a 61.

Brandt Snedeker has withdrawn from this week's John Deere Classic, citing a back injury.
A year ago at this time, Snedeker was on a torrid pace, posting four top 5s over the span of seven events. The highlight of that run was a T2 at the John Deere Classic, so today's WD will disappoint weekly fantasy gamers that were planning on plugging him in this week. And he finished T16 at the AT&T National, so it's likely that he would have been a popular selection. On a side note, he will not tee it up at St. Andrews next week, thus failing to recover from his four-putt at last year's BMW Championship. (Those that qualify for THE TOUR Championship earn exemptions into the first three majors. Snedeker was bumped outside the top 30 due to the 72nd-hole gaffe at Cog Hill.)

Brandt Snedeker finished two rounds of the Shell Houston Open in 3-over-par 78-69=147 and will miss the cut.
For over 100 in the field this week, the SHO was the final opportunity to qualify for next week's Masters. Of those missing the cut today, it likely stings greatest for Snedeker. Remember, it was his four-putt on the 72nd green at the BMW Championship last September that bumped him outside the top 30 in FedExCup Points, thus forfeiting automatic berths into THE TOUR Championship and the first three majors of 2010. Fittingly, it's his putting that has prevented him from contending lately. In yesterday's opening round at Redstone, he hit only 11 GIR and still needed 33 putts. Today's 14 GIR-28 putt ratio was more like it, but it was simply too little, too late. It's his fifth straight result outside the top 25.

Brandt Snedeker posted 5-under-par 33-33=66 in the third round of the Waste Management Phoenix Open, and will sleep on the solo 54-hole lead.
Sneds' short game is a great fit for the tight lies and fast greens at TPC Scottsdale, and his recent play supported him as one of the favorites this week. Through 54 holes, he's drained a field-high 19 birdies and carded just five bogeys to get to 14-under. He's also second in putting. The last time Snedeker held a piece an overnight lead was at the halfway point of the 2008 PODS Championship, where he faded to a T8. He'll be gunning for his second career PGA Tour victory tomorrow.
