 Jeff Niemann-S- RaysOct. 3 - 10:46 pm et
Jeff Niemann limited the Yankees to two earned runs over five innings Saturday as his Rays grabbed a 5-3 victory.
Niemann rung up five Yankees hitters against just one walk. The Rays didn't manage to claim a spot in playoffs this season, but Niemann has been a pleasant surprise. He entered the '09 campaign with just five major league appearances under his belt but will finish with a 13-6 record and 3.94 ERA over 30 starts.

Jeff Niemann allowed three runs over 6 2/3 innings against the Mariners on Tuesday night, but took a no-decision in an eventual 4-3 loss.
Once again, Niemann walks away without a win despite a quality start. He limited the Mariners to just four hits, including a two-run homer by Ichiro, while fanning four and walking four. Niemann is 12-6 with a 3.81 ERA over 29 games (28 starts) this season. He hasn't won since August 24. He'll try to change that against the Orioles next week.
 Jeff Niemann-S - Rays Sep. 15 - 10:31 pm et

Jeff Niemann was torched for six runs over 4 1/3 innings in a 10-5 loss to the Orioles on Tuesday night.
The six runs were the most Niemann had allowed in a start since his season debut. Finally given some run support, he was knocked around for a career-high 11 hits while fanning six and walking one. It was Niemann's shortest outing since June 21. The poor showing upped his ERA to 3.80 for the year.
 Jeff Niemann-S - Rays Sep. 9 - 10:29 pm et

Jeff Niemann took another tough no-decision against the Yankees on Wednesday night, allowing one run over seven innings in an eventual 4-2 loss.
Crazy. Make that three straight starts in which Niemann has allowed two runs or less, but he has zero wins to show for it. Niemann scattered eight hits while striking out eight and walking just one. He left after giving up a leadoff single to Alex Rodriguez in the eighth, but Lance Cormier, Brian Shouse and Grant Balfour combined to spoil the solid effort. The 26-year-old right-hander now has a fine 3.57 ERA in 161 1/3 innings this season, but his teammates may end up costing him the Rookie of the Year award.
 Jeff Niemann-S - Rays Sep. 4 - 11:40 pm et

Jeff Niemann took a tough no-decision against the Tigers on Friday night, allowing just one run over 7 2/3 innings in an eventual 4-3 loss.
Niemann held the Tigers scoreless until Miguel Cabrera slugged a solo home run in the sixth inning. It spoiled a brilliant effort, as Niemann allowed just six hits while walking a pair and striking out six. Niemann has allowed two runs or less while pitching at least seven innings in three of his last four starts. He carries a 3.67 ERA into his next start against the Red Sox.
 Jeff Niemann-S - Rays Aug. 24 - 10:46 pm et

Jeff Niemann allowed six runs -- five earned -- over 6 1/3 innings on Monday night, but still picked up a win as the Rays topped the Blue Jays.
Few would have predicted that Niemann would be Tampa's leader in wins at this point of the season back in March, but here he sits with 12 wins -- four more than any other Rays starter. His 3.87 ERA is plenty solid, but the fact that the Rays have averaged seven runs in games he's started certainly hasn't hurt.
