White Sox signed SS Omar Vizquel to a one-year, $1.375 million contract.
The deal makes sense for both parties. The White Sox ink a veteran who offers the club a stellar defensive option off the bench at shortstop, second base or third base. The 42-year-old Vizquel hit only .266/.316/.345 in 177 at-bats last season, but his defense and mentorship of youngsters Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham should make the contract worthwhile for the South Siders.

Omar Vizquel will sign with the White Sox on Monday, a source told ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine.
It will be a one-year contract worth $1.375 million. Vizquel won't give the White Sox much at the plate -- he hit .266/.316/.345 in 177 at-bats last season -- but he will give the team a stellar defensive option off the bench at shortstop, second base or third base.

Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune reports that the White Sox have offered Omar Vizquel a one-year contract worth $1 million.
Vizquel, 42, will probably be inclined to take it. He hit just .266//316/.345 in 177 at-bats during the 2009 season, but could easily play shortstop, second base or third base, as he did with the Rangers. He would be a fine tutor for Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham.

According to Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com, the White Sox are close to a one-year deal with infielder Omar Vizquel.
Vizquel, 42, would serve as a backup all around the Chicago infield, spelling Mark Teahen at third, Alexei Ramirez at short or Gordon Beckham at second base. He hit just .266//316/.345 in 177 at-bats during the 2009 season but remains one of the finest defenders in all of baseball.

FOXSports.com cites major league sources who say that Omar Vizquel will not return to the Rangers next season.
This contradicts an MLB.com report from last week in which general manager Jon Daniels said the Rangers were close to an agreement with the 42-year-old shortstop. According to FOXSports.com, Vizquel would prefer to sign with a "higher-profile team." Stay tuned.

The Rangers are working towards an agreement with free agent Omar Vizquel.
"We're probably farther along with him than anybody," GM Jon Daniels said. Vizquel hit .266//316/.345 in 177 at-bats while playing behind Elvis Andrus last season.
