Dodgers manager Joe Torre said he will attempt to give more off days to veterans Manny Ramirez and Casey Blake this season.
"We're going to look at that, the daytime stuff, and Blake also," Torre said. "It looks like we have the bench to do that. With Reed Johnson, we can also rest Andre Ethier and not have to relocate Matt Kemp." Ramirez should like this news, as he complained last season that his legs were wearing down from playing the outfield.

According to Dylan Hernandez of the L.A. Times, Manny Ramirez will exercise his $20 million option and return to the Dodgers in 2010.
It's not a big surprise. Ramirez hit the cover off the ball again for the Dodgers in 2009 despite missing 50 games due to a PED suspension. He will be 38 years old by the start of next season and is an awful defensive outfielder, but Manny remains one of the top right-handed hitters in the game.

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that Manny Ramirez "is planning to" exercise his $20 million option for 2010 and remain with the Dodgers.
No surprise. Ramirez was suspended for 50 games, but had he accumulated enough plate appearances to qualify his .949 OPS would have ranked seventh among NL hitters. He didn't hit particularly well down the stretch and will be 38 years old next season, but Ramirez remains of the best right-handed bats in baseball.

After dropping the NLCS to the Phillies on Wednesday night, manager Joe Torre reiterated his intention to return as manager in 2010.
Torre has another year on his contract, but some members of the media have speculated that he could hang it up after this season. "I haven't gotten to that point, as long as I have another year on my contract, and I've had indications that they'll allow me to come back next year," said Torre. "I like to believe that the chances are we can come back here." Torre, 69, tied Bobby Cox by leading his team to the postseason for the 14th consecutive season.

Manny Ramirez told reporters he was "in the shower" when Jimmy Rollins hit a walkoff two-run double in the ninth inning of Monday's NLCS Game 4.
Even more surprising, Dodgers manager Joe Torre didn't seem to mind at all. "Manny has so much confidence," Torre said Tuesday. "I don't think it's disrespect or anything. He wasn't going anywhere until the game was over, and we can't put him back in the game." The Dodgers are down 3-1 in the best-of-seven series with Game 5 scheduled for Wednesday night.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are discussing a long-term contract extension with general manager Ned Colletti.
Colletti is locked up through 2010 on his current contract, but the Dodgers' ownership group wants to ensure that he sticks around beyond that. "He's obviously done a very good job," owner Frank McCourt said Tuesday. "The team has the best record in the National League. We're on the verge of clinching the division back-to-back [for the first time] in 31 years. I think that speaks for itself." The Dodgers are 93-65 this season.
