Raul Ibanez underwent surgery to repair a sports hernia on Monday.
General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said the sports hernia was on the left side of his body, but that Dr. Bill Meyers also repaired some damage on the right side of Ibanez's abdomen. The 37-year-old outfielder is expected to be ready for spring training.

Raul Ibanez will have surgery on Monday to repair a sports hernia.
The news doesn't come as much of a surprise, since Ibanez played through pain above his abdomen for nearly four months. It surely affected his performance at the plate, as Ibanez batted just .232/.326/.448 with 12 home runs and 33 RBI after the All-Star break. Hopefully the 37-year-old outfielder will start spring training in top condition. He has two years and $23 million left on his current contract.

 Brad Lidge-R - Phillies Nov. 7 - 8:42 am et

Brad Lidge may require arthroscopic surgery to clean up loose bone fragments in his pitching elbow.
Lidge is undergoing a MRI to help make this determination. The ailment reportedly never affected Lidge in the regular season, during which he also battled a sprained right knee. His 7.21 ERA makes that hard to believe. Any surgery would not compromise Lidge's availability in spring training. Raul Ibanez (muscle tears in groin, abdomen) and Jamie Moyer (torn meniscus in knee) both also underwent MRIs and may also be candidates for surgery

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel confirmed Tuesday that Ben Francisco will be in his starting lineup for Game 1 of the World Series.
Francisco hit .278 with five home runs in only 97 at-bats as a Phillie this season. He's probably going to play left field with Raul Ibanez serving as the designated hitter against Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia.

Raul Ibanez said he's not having any problems dealing with a small muscle tear near his abdomen that may require surgery after the season.
Ibanez went down in June with what was called a strained groin and consulted with physicians then. "I'm fine. I'm doing fine," Ibanez said. "That's all stuff that's in the past. I had spoken to the guy, but that's stuff that's kind of in the past. I don't really even think about it. Look, I'm fine right now."
