Rays re-signed outfielder Gabe Kapler to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.
Kapler gets a $50,000 raise after spending this season platooning with Gabe Gross in right field. All but 64 of his 238 plate appearances came against left-handed pitching and he'll fill a part-time role again in 2010 after hitting .239/.329/.439 overall.
 Carl Crawford-OF - Rays Aug. 31 - 11:51 am et

Carl Crawford is being held out of the lineup Monday against Tigers left-hander Jarrod Washburn.
The decision reportedly has nothing to do with Crawford's stiff back. Gabe Kapler is in left field with Ben Zobrist in right. Crawford is batting .293/.327/.455 in August and should return Tuesday.

Carl Crawford said that his sore back was feeling better on Wednesday.
He has increased confidence that he'll be ready to return to action on Friday, but at this point that's still not a guarantee. Gabe Kapler starts in his place once again on Wednesday.

Carl Crawford (back) is expected to miss Tuesday's game.
Crawford was pulled early Monday night after experiencing back tightness while running the bases. The injury isn't serious, but a day of rest is the prescribed treatment. Gabe Kapler could draw a start Tuesday.
