Nationals signed 2B Adam Kennedy to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with a $2 million club option for 2011.
Kennedy, 34, batted .289/.348/.410 with 11 homers and 29 doubles in 529 at-bats last season for the A's. He played all around the infield in Oakland, but will man second base primarily for the Nationals this season. That is, until top infield prospect Ian Desmond comes along. NL-only leaguers may be able to get some use out of Kennedy for the first few months of 2010.

Buster Olney of ESPN.com reports that Adam Kennedy's contract is worth $1.25 million this year and contains a $2 million option for 2011.
It's not a terrible contract, as long as Kennedy can come close to matching his 2009 production with the A's. The 34-year-old batted .289/.348/.410 with 11 homers and 63 RBI last season. He's expected to serve as the Nationals' starting second baseman this year.

The Nationals agreed to terms late Thursday evening with second baseman Adam Kennedy, according to MLB.com's Bill Ladson.
Kennedy will take over as the everyday starting second baseman for the Nationals. The 34-year-old did surprisingly well last season, batting .289/.348/.410 with 11 homers and 63 RBI in Oakland, but he's not a super option in mixed leagues. NL-leaguers could try him out if desperate. The fact is, he's old and Ian Desmond is going to play somewhere at some point this season. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Bill Ladson of MLB.com reports that with Orlando Hudson no longer an option at second base, the Nationals could sign free agent Adam Kennedy or pursue a trade.
Of course, they could also just go with Cristian Guzman at second base and Ian Desmond at shortstop, but the behavior of general manager Mike Rizzo this offseason doesn't indicate that they are ready for that. The 33-year-old Kennedy has been their fallback all along, but they might as well see what they have in Desmond at this point.

Adam Kennedy told Bill Ladson of MLB.com that he hasn't heard from the Nationals in about a week.
Also of note, he says the Nationals are currently waiting on Orlando Hudson's decision. Kennedy wouldn't be a bad fallback option if the O-Dog decides to chase more guaranteed money elsewhere, but it's pretty clear that he has been their top choice all along. Hudson is expected to make a decision this week.

Adam Kennedy's agent Paul Cohen said he remains in talks with three teams about his client, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com.
Two of the clubs have interest in Kennedy as a starter while another would like to use him in a super-utility role. Cohen wouldn't address the teams involved, but according to Morosi, the Cubs and Nationals are currently in the market for a second baseman. Kennedy, 33, was a pleasant surprise with the Atheltics last season, batting .289/.348/.410 with 11 homers and 63 RBI.
